Healthy Campus Programme

In 2021, the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences joined the Healthy Campus programme initiated by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) to promote the well-being of its academic community in the fields of physical activity and health.

In the spring of 2022, the Academy was awarded the programme’s highest recognition – the Platinum Level Certificate. The acknowledgement was given for the Academy’s proven activities in recent years in the programme’s core areas: physical activity and sport, nutrition, mental and social well-being, risk behaviour reduction, disease prevention, sustainability, as well as programme management and administration.

As a result of the auditing process, the Platinum Certificate was renewed in early 2025. Starting from autumn 2025, the Academy’s participation in the international programme has been put on hold; however, we continue to pursue the objectives we have set internally.

In cooperation with the Estonian Academic Sports Federation, the Academy has organised conferences, seminars and trainings, and has also acted as an adviser in launching the Estonian Healthy Campus programme.

Through the Academy’s Sports Club, we have also received support from the Cultural Endowment of Estonia to carry out programme-related activities.

Objective

  • To support healthy lifestyles of students and staff.
  • To create a safe and inclusive environment.
  • To promote evidence-based and sustainable development.
  • To align activities with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Sport at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences

The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences has strong sporting traditions – our students, staff and alumni have excelled in student and institutional sports as well as on international arenas.

Among the Academy’s alumni are Olympic medalists Allar Raja and Heiki Nabi. Our students have won medals at World and European University Championships and have repeatedly been recognised as the best student athletes. In recent years, the Academy has been the most successful Estonian higher education institution at the regional international student competition SELL Games.

Students and staff can take part in competitions organised by the Estonian Academic Sports Federation, in sports events of the Police and Prison Service, as well as in popular sports. For training, modern sports halls are available in Tallinn, Narva and other study centres. In addition, regular physical activity campaigns are held, sports scholarships are awarded, and the Academy’s best athletes are recognised every year.
